Have you caught on yet? We love a good sensory bin!! Below is how our fall sensory bin turned spooky.
Fall Sensory Bin Turned Spooky
Sometimes all it takes is something super simple to change up a sensory bin! We had been playing with our corn sensory bin for many days at this point and my kids were still enjoying it. But with Halloween coming, I decided it was time for a simple change up! Something super simple can change the entire way in which they play and add so much more creativity. To turn the table spooky, all I did was add a few Halloween erasers and draped a spider web over top.
Working on Fine Motor
One of the cool parts about adding a spider web over top was that they needed to reach through in order to reach any of the corn or the items inside. This allowed them to work on some fine motor skills and their grip. The type of spider web that we used actually was more difficult because it was so fine. This led to lots of pushing and pulling and separating to get items out. This also led to some of the corn sticking to the spider web itself. All of this actually led to more fine motor skill work.
Supplies
- Spider Web
- Dried Corn

- Buckets and containers (we got ours from the Dollar Tree)
How Did They Play?
One of the questions I frequently get, how did they play? When I took our fall sensory bin and turned it spooky for Halloween, my kids had to rewire their play from the corn bin they had been playing in. Initially, they just enjoyed trying to reach through and grab things to find the new things inside to play with. Eventually play got a little more complex. They began to rework the spider web and use it to hide items and search for things. They also spent time trying to fill buckets through the spider web. Then once they began to realize that the spider web held onto things, they began to experiment with items that would stick to it. My kids almost always end up figuring out ways to play store or hide and seek with our sensory bins. One of their favorite items is an egg carton where they can sneak things into the base and cover it and have people guess where they hid an item.
