Most kids love to color and create. Once the weather changes, many kids love to get outside and color with chalk. We quite enjoyed getting outside and coloring with chalk ourselves. Today though, we wanted to do something a little different. We decided to create our own DIY sidewalk chalk paint. Sometimes, it is a simple change up that can make a world of difference.

Simple Fun
Sometimes it is truly just a quick switch of things that entices kids to play for longer. Not that chalk does not still entertain my children but we have been getting into a rut of how long we could play. Our creativity was waning. Something as simple as turning chalk into paint instead of regular chalk sticks changed their perspective. Suddenly they all had new ideas for what to draw and what to make. They quickly started drawing favorite characters and different foods.

Supplies
Recipe to Make DIY Sidewalk Chalk Paint
- Fill a muffin tin with about 1/3 cup of cornstarch.
- Add in a couple drops of food coloring.
- Fill the rest with water.
- Stir until it is combined.
- Paint to your hearts desire!

Process Art
One fun thing that my kids did was they started to experiment with ways to play with the chalk paint. They started to dip their paint brushes into the chalk paint and instead of painting, they started to make some splatter art. This created a fun array of colors splattered across the driveway! After they finished that and there was not a lot of water left, they started some drizzle art. They took their muffin tin and turned it upside down walking around the driveway. It created some fun rainbow drizzles around the driveway.
If your kids enjoy doing process art, here are some other fun things we have done: spaghetti painting and squeegee painting.
