As I am sure you all are feeling this January, we have been a little under the weather. Since we have been cooped up a little bit more these days, we are relying on activities to get through the day! This week, we decided to make a super simple craft. We made a cotton ball snowman! This is such an easy craft and great for those little toddler hands!
Cotton Ball Snowman
For us, this was such a great way to reuse those cotton balls that we threw all over our living room when we made it snow in our living room. (You can check out that post here.) You truly do not need very many supplies for this activity and it is such a great way to work on little kids hand strength.
Fine Motor Practice
In order for kids to gain the skills they need to be independent, they must be given the opportunity. For us, this looks like independence with the glue and scissors (with supervision). Let them strengthen those hand muscles by squeezing the glue bottle. Allow them to work on their ability to control the bottle and make shapes with the glue. This is such a great way to let them gain those skills and practice. My 3 year old quickly realized that the one bottle of glue was harder to squeeze, so she actually used it to make the outline of the snowman and went back with the bottle that dumped more glue and filled it in.
Let them Get Messy
As you know, we are also all about sensory experiences around here. With one of our glue bottles truly just dumping glue for this craft, it allowed for the discussion that it is okay to use your fingers to spread the glue. We treated this very similar to finger painting. If you feel it gives you better control to spread the glue with your fingers, then go right ahead. This allows them to continue to get some sensory play even in what normally would probably be a fairly clean craft.
