When buying this house, we thought that it was the

When buying this house, we thought that it was the perfect fit for our family. As we have lived here, we find that some of it works for us but that we can utilize the space to be so much more functional for our family as well.

Over the past year, we have really started to pour our hearts and souls into turning this house into our home. A lot of love, sweat, and many tears have been poured into this house. Room by room, we are figuring out what works for us and determining ways to make it function for our family. We know time will likely change the function but for now we are making our house cozy and a home for us.

Stay tuned… we have some big plans coming for our house, both inside and out!!

We have reached our halfway goal of @1000hoursouts

We have reached our halfway goal of @1000hoursoutside this year!! Some days are as simple as spending time on our porch and reading books, other days are filled with adventure. I have to tell you, that I knew there were benefits to being outside but little did I anticipate the memories that we have made.

My kids wake up and ask what we are going to do outside every single day now. It is honestly so refreshing, they accept simple answers of swinging in the yard or heading on a hike or swimming in the creek.

Every day has become an adventure filled with vitamin D. I have watched each of them grow throughout the year already. Both physical and mental benefits have improved in all of them: stronger climbing skills, better balance, more emotional regulation, better independent play, and so much more.

The memories we have from just the beginning half of the year being outside have been incredible. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the year holds and all the other memories we will continue to make!

This corner of our yard is dedicated to a natural

This corner of our yard is dedicated to a natural play space. Thanks to the push to get started from the @oneroomchallenge with @apartmenttherapy we started this corner weeks ago. We never finished in time so now I will just share my updates as they come.

Initially I was truly looking for some long logs to build this completely out of logs but finding both long and straight logs proved to be quite difficult. So a change of gears and I built the frame out of 2x4’s!

Still looking to gather some more logs and stumps to create a mud pit but have some longer logs to build a balance beam! Celebrating making progress and having some spaces that our kids love!!

So today is officially the last day of the One Roo

So today is officially the last day of the One Room Challenge… this space may not look a whole lot different to you than previously and you wouldn’t exactly be wrong.

A lot has happened here though, we were able to move both sheds to open up our backyard. In doing so though we unearthed a bunny nest in the space I wanted to create a natural play space. So we recreated a safe area and watched those bunnies grow and leave the nest. This was such a fun experience for my kids, they loved learning about the bunnies and how to know when they are old enough to leave the nest.

We were able to get some landscaping done and planted trees around the fence line. We acquired some more logs, though maybe not enough yet. We planted our garden, opened our pool, and truly just enjoyed being outdoors with some finally nice weather!!

The @oneroomchallenge hosted by @apartmenttherapy inspired me to get started on this space. The bunnies held me up from making much progress, but just because it’s the last official reveal day does not mean I won’t finish this space.

The Spring One Room Challenge kicks off today! The

The Spring One Room Challenge kicks off today! The One Room Challenge (ORC) is an 8 week challenge to encourage you and those around you to start and finish a space. The goal is to motivate each other and cheer each other on. Some projects get completed and others hit bumps in the road but it is such a great way to find inspiration, encouragement, and motivation!

While everyone else has beautiful and inspiring mood boards, I have some pictures of logs and dirt! For the Spring ORC, I plan to create a natural play space in our backyard. We have a section of backyard that is relatively unused but could be so much better utilized. It will take some rearranging to make it happen but I can’t wait to create the space.

Some goals I have for the space:
- A dirt/mud pit
- Stepping stumps
- A balance beam
- A balancing walkway
- Things to climb
Be sure to follow along over the next 8 weeks to see what this space becomes and to hopefully see it all completed!
