It is that time of the year again, the leaves are falling, so it is time for an autumn scavenger hunt! For our family, we enjoy spending nearly all of our time outdoors. Don’t get me wrong, we don’t live out there but we sure do spend a lot of time out there. So this week, we are planning to embrace the changing weather and heading out for a fall scavenger hunt.
Autumn Scavenger Hunt at Home or Out and About
This is such a simple activity and can be done in your backyard or out on a hike. Our plan is to actually collect our items from our scavenger hunt so that we can actually come home and create a sensory bin from the items we have collected.
As you may well learn, we absolutely LOVE a good sensory bin. We use many different things in our sensory bin. I will continue to provide different ways we use our sensory bin, we use it nearly every day! Today we are going to encourage some independence and allow them to gather items for their own sensory bin play!
Supplies:
- A bag or basket to collect items (can be a collective effort or each child can bring their own collection vessel)
Ideas:
- Acorns
- Colorful leaves (red, brown, yellow, green)
- Pine cones
- Small twigs
- Walnuts
- Feathers
- Small rocks
- Seed pods
- Dried flowers
- Cattails
- Grass
- Moss
Future Sensory Bin
Check back here later in the week to see how this turned into a fun sensory bin!
